______

Caroline is a versatile sewing pattern with a true wrap bodice for women, with a feminine and flattering design. A garment you can love to wear wether the numbers on your scale go up or down, thanks to the loose and flexible fit.

The simple construction lets you skip both darts and zippers and you can relatively fast whip up a blouse or dress.

Caroline can be sewn as a cropped blouse, peplum blouse and dress. Four different sleeves are included and they all fit all variants: short sleeves, 1/2 sleeves, puff sleeves and long sleeves. All variants are perfect both for knit and woven fabrics (more info under tab further down on this page).

With the dress you can sew side seam pockets.

Skill level: 2-3/3 (Level guide).

YOU WILL NEED:

Light-weight fabric (approx. 100-200 gr/m2, shirting to dress weight). You can use both knit fabrics (up to 40% stretch) and woven fabrics. You don’t need to adjust the pattern for knits and can choose the same size (according to the size guide) whichever fabric you use.

Some woven fabrics I recommend: Linen, cotton, chambray, lyocell (tencel), cotton lawn, voile, double gauze and seersucker.

Some knit fabrics I recommend: tencel jersey, modal jersey, viscose jersey, bamboo jersey, cotton jersey.

ALSO USEFUL:

Tape measure, fabric scissors, pins/clips, iron (great if it has a steam function) and a sewing machine with coordinating thread and a suitable needle for your fabric. For woven fabrics you can use a universal needle, and for knits a stretch needle is usually recommended).

Note! If you’re using knit fabrics you will probably need a little less fabric than stated above, since you can then cut your bias facing across the grain. The fabric requirements chart is based on using woven fabrics and then you would cut the bias facing diagonally. Pockets are included in the dress. For all variants bias facing and tie bands are included.

The fabric requirements above is an estimation. I recommend you to add 20 cm (8”) extra if you’re purchasing new fabric for this project, and account for shrinkage.

Choose your size based on your body measurements. Compare with the finished measurements to get an idea of how Caroline is designed to fit. Caroline has a relaxed and loose fit but will feel different depending on your fabric choice. Personally I love this relaxed pattern when sewn both in knit and woven fabrics, whether they are drapey or stable. If you want a less loose fit, you can size down 1 size if using wovens, and 1-2 sizes down if you’ve got knits.

Like all my other women’s patterns, the Caroline is designed for a B cup size. You can find your sewing cup size (not the same as bra cup size) by measuring your upper bust and full bust. If full bust minus upper bust is 5 cm (2”), you have a B cup. Read more on my website. During the pattern test we could see that the Caroline fits beautifully also on testers with an A cup or C cup.

With the included Sewing Instructions you receive help from start to finish. It’s a solid and detailed description of each step in the making of this garment. It includes clear pictures, explanatory text and tips that will give the garment a professional look.

If you are new to some of the sewing techniques this is an excellent opportunity for you to develop your sewing skills. Consider our patterns your sewing school.

The tutorial also includes a size chart and a fabric requirements chart. Measurements are provided in both the metric and imperial system.
